This page gives foreigners a general idea of Thailand Immigration rules, things to keep in mind regarding your stay in Thailand.
Foreigners staying in the Kingdom of Thailand shall adhere to the following:
- Shall not engage in occupation or employment unless authorized by competent official.
- Shall stay at a place of residence as indicated on entry. If a foreigner changes residence he/she shall inform competent official within 24 hours of address change.
- If a foreigner plans to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand for longer than ninety days, the foreigner must notify the immigration officer by filling application form TM.47
- The foreigner is allowed to stay in the Kingdom up to the period of time that the Immigration officer stamps the entry permit. The entry permit stamp shows the arrival and date permitted to stay.
- If the foreigner stays in the Kingdom longer than the period of time which such foreigner is authorized, the foreigner must submit an application in person for an extension. Permission for extension will be considered according to the statutory reasons of the Immigration Act, B.E.2522.
- If a foreigner receives permission to stay in the Kingdom, and the foreigner wishes to leave the Kingdom during the period of authorized stay and wants to return to the Kingdom, the foreigner must apply for a re-entry permit. The foreigner shall be then allowed back into the kingdom and complete the period of time authorized on his entry visa. Re-entry permit must be applied for and granted before the foreigner leaves the Kingdom.
Penalty for any foreigner who fails to comply with Immigration Act, B.E. 2522:
- If a foreigner stays in the Kingdom longer than 90 days, such foreigner must notify a competent official. Any foreigner, who fails to comply with this provision, shall be liable to punishment with a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht, plus a fine not exceeding 200 Baht per day, up until alien notification.
- Any foreigner who stays in the Kingdom without permission or permission is expired or revoked, shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding 2 years, or a fine not exceeding 20,000 Baht, or both. If a foreigner who stays in the Kingdom with permission that has expired, notifies a competent official in person, and agrees to be punished with a fine of 500 Baht for each day, not exceeding 20,000 Baht, the case shall be deemed settled.
- Foreigners shall not engage in occupation or employment unless authorized by a competent official. A foreigner, who fails to comply with this provision, shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding 1 year, or a fine not exceeding 10,000 Baht, or both.
In case of Lost Passport,
The procedure is as follows:
- Report to a police station details of the lost passport.
- Bring the police report to the embassy in order to receive a new passport together with letter of certification.
- Bring the police report, the new passport and letter of certification from the embassy to the Immigration officer where the foreigner resides. Immigration officer will stamp the arrival entry and update the new passport.
Place to notify residence:
- A foreigner shall notify immigration office or local police station where he/she resides within 24 hours from their time of arrival in the kingdom.
- Shall notify immigration office, where such alien resides, every ninety (90) days.
