Foreigners in Thailand Must Do 90-Day Notification Report

If you are on a Non-Immigrant visa and staying in Thailand for more than 90 days, remember to notify your address to the Immigration Bureau every 90 days. This is in accordance with the Immigration Act B.E. 2522. The form to be filed is called TM.47 and it must be done within 15 days before or 7 days after the 90 days period expires. Failure to do so or in case of late notification, you must still notify in person and pay a penalty of THB 2,000, or THB 5,000 if taken into custody. You must also remember that leaving and re-entering Thailand resets the 90 day notification period, which will start from the re-entry date.

Moreover, you must also keep in mind that this 90-day notification report is not the same as visa extension. For instance, when you go to the Immigration Office to do your visa extension and your 90 days period is not expired yet, you still have to remember to do your 90 day report even though the Immigration officers have seen you already when you extend your visa.

You can do the 90-day notification report in 3 ways:

  1. You visit the Immigration Office to do the notification report in person or you can also authorize another person to make the notification on your behalf.
  2. You can send the notification report by registered mail. It must be sent to the local area of Immigration Office by Thailand Post only before the renewal date of 15 days. You must keep the proof of sending the registered mail until the confirmation of 90-day notification is returned.
  3. You can submit the notification report online within 15 days but not less than 7 days before the due date of notification. In case of new passport (i.e. change or lost passport or first time to do visa extension) you have to do the 90 day notification report in person. Afterwards, you can make the next 90 day report by online service.
