If you have a work permit with a BOI company and your work permit is cancelled, you need to take the cancellation document issued by the BOI to the Single Window Service to cancel your permit of stay (or people say to cancel your visa) and leave the country within the deadline mentioned in the said BOI document. If you do not do it within the deadline, you will overstay your visa in Thailand and the fine is THB 500 per day. The complication is that the immigration officer at the Single Window Service will not cancel your permit of stay for you because by that time you will already have been in Thailand illegally. They may have to arrest you. And if you leave Thailand without cancelling your overstayed Visa in your passport at the Single Window Service, but manage to pay for your overstay fine at the airport, it should be okay if you will not come back in to make another work permit to work with another company. However, in case you want to come back in so that you can process your new work permit at the Single Window Service to work for a new employer, the immigration officer there will make you pay for the overstay fine again counting from the day of the deadline in the BOI’s cancellation document.
The solution? With the above case, the immigration officer at the Single Window Service advised that you should leave Thailand without paying for the overstay fine at the airport. Then come back in without a visa (so this method works only with the nationalities that can come to Thailand without a visa.) Then you will go to the Single Window Service with the BOI cancellation document to cancel your previous permit of stay and pay for the overstay fine. This way, you will pay the fine only once. Then you go out of the country again to get a new Non B visa with your visa package prepared by your new employer.
