Can a Foreigner Set Up a Salon Business and Work as a Hairdresser in Thailand?

Foreigners are not allowed to set up a salon business in Thailand without a Thai partner. They cannot work as hairdressers or provide beauty salon services.

Aside from hairdresser and salon services, foreigners are not allowed to do the following occupations:

  1. Wood carving
  2. Motorcycle driving, excluding forklift operations
  3. Auction
  4. Gem cutting or gem polishing
  5. Hand-weaving fabrics
  6. Loom weaving or manufacturing using straw, bamboo, chicken feathers, yarn, etc.
  7. Handmade paper production
  8. Traditional lacquer making
  9. Thai traditional musical instrument making
  10. Thai niello making
  11. Gold, silver or platinum smithing
  12. Stone carving
  13. Thai doll making
  14. Alms bowl making
  15. Hand-woven silk production
  16. Buddha statue making
  17. Paper or fabric umbrella making
  18. Agent or broker services
  19. Thai massage
  20. Cigarette rolling
  21. Guide services
  22. Street selling
  23. Thai alphabets arranging services
  24. Silk thread spinning
  25. Secretarial services
  26. Legal services
